King’s students and staff can now donate items directly to partner charities, in an exciting new initiative by King’s Volunteering. The first donation drive – a collaboration with NEST, will run from 12 May to 13 June 2023, collecting items for Little Village, a charity that provides clothes, toys and equipment for babies and preschoolers to local families in need.
King’s Volunteering connects students and staff at King’s with volunteering opportunities with over 100 different community partners – that's charities, community interest companies, and community groups.
Many community partners rely on donations from the public, from clothing and blankets to items for babies, toiletries, food, and much more.
King’s Volunteering are pleased to introduce Donation Stations – donation points at each of our King’s Campuses where students and staff can donate items for charity.
From 12 May - 13 June 2023, King’s Volunteering are collaborating with NEST, the network to engage, support & bring together parents and carers at King’s, to collect the following items for King's Volunteering partner, Little Village:
- Clothes and coats (0-6 years).
- Shoes (children's size 3 - 13).
- Slings & baby carriers.
- Towels & blankets.
- Changing mats & changing bags.
- Feeding & weaning kits - plates, bowls, cutlery, sippy cups and beakers.
- New nappies, wipes & toiletries for baby, toddler & mum (new and unopened).
- Toys and books.
Please note that all donations must be of great quality and condition. The items that Little Village pass on to families are a gift, given with love, from one family to another. Please bear this in mind when you are preparing your donations and only donate items you would be happy to pass on to a family member or friend – so no stained, worn out or broken items please. Every week we provide a lunch for isolated older people in Victoria. We provide jacket potato with various fillings and a hot meal in winter. the lunch is run by volunteers. We require volunteers on a Wednesday from 11.00 - 2.30.
We are looking for volunteers who can commit at least 4 hours a week on an ongoing basis. Full DBS check and travel expenses covered. Volunteers receive information, advice and training Weekly meetings are held on Saturday for 1 hour
As a Cooking Volunteer you’ll join the kitchen team to help produce a three-course vegetarian meal using surplus food. You’ll contribute to recipe ideas, help with prepping the food, cooking the meal, and of course clearing up afterwards!
