Student Placement Volunteer

In this role, you will support people to access healthcare and overcome barriers, providing much-needed practical support. Your time will be split working in our Stratford (East London) Clinic and on our remote Advice Line and Casework.

What You'll Do: 

• You will be the first point of contact for people using our service in a health promotion setting.

• Listening to peoples’ needs and identifying other support services.

• Helping with GP registration and administration needs & advocating on people’s behalf to NHS services.

• Taking on in depth and complex casework where people seeking support face significant barriers to accessing healthcare.

• Completing data collection forms with people engaging with our services.

• Responding to queries on our advice line.

What We're Looking For: 

If you are friendly, empathetic, a good listener and passionate about upholding the right to healthcare, this role could be a great fit for you! Student Placement volunteers are the main point of contact for patients who call our advice line and visit our East London Clinic. 

You will need: 

• Able to commit to 25 days’ volunteering spread over 5, 6 or 8 weeks.

• The desire to help people in vulnerable situations.

• Knowledge of the UK healthcare system.

• Non-judgmental attitude towards people from diverse backgrounds.

• Good social and communication skills.

• Fluency in English.

• Confident telephone manners.

• Computer literacy (Microsoft, Google and Outlook) and ability to work across multiple platforms/documents.

• Fluency in other languages/confidence working with interpreting services are desirable but not essential.
