Volunteers are required to help in the running of our Five Sisters Café which is located in our Community Hub, on the ground floor of the Hospice. Our café sells a range of freshly made sandwiches, snacks, and hot meals. Hot and cold drinks.
Key tasks include:
- Serving customers in a warm and welcoming manner
- Assisting the catering team in the day to day running of the café
- Handling and preparing simple foods for customers (training provided)
- Taking orders, operating the till, and handling money
- Using light cooking equipment for our in-house grab & go selection (training provided)
- Keeping shelves stocked up, clearing, and cleaning tables
Time requirements:
The café is open Monday to Friday from 7:30pm to 5pm. We are currently looking for volunteers to cover the following shifts:
- Monday 2pm - 5pm
- Friday 2pm – 5pm
- Join a fantastic team of likeminded volunteers
- Enjoy the face-to-face contact with patients & visitors to the hospice
- Support the work of St Joseph’s Hospice
- Reimbursement of travel expenses up to zones 1-6 (at Oyster card rates)
- Lunch allowance redeemable at Five Sisters Café after 4 hours volunteering
- Reference after six months volunteering.

- Learn from experienced cafe manager
Skills and qualities required:
- Excellent customer service skills – friendly, polite, and helpful
- Ability to use a modern till system, or happy to learn
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to complete Food Safety Level 2 certificate and any mandatory training
- A team player
- Promoting both the core values of the hospice and the catering service
To volunteer in the Five Sisters Café you must be 18+, and able to supply the details of two referees.
