Volunteer Maths or English tutor

What You'll Do:

Action Tutoring is an education charity that supports disadvantaged young people to achieve meaningful qualifications on leaving primary and secondary school. We partner our brilliant volunteer tutors with school pupils to increase their subject knowledge, whilst building on confidence and study skills.

In this country, if you’re from a poorer socio-economic background, you are less likely to achieve academically than your peers. Volunteer as an English or maths tutor with us and you will be helping these young people reach their potential. You will be directly supporting them to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with grades that enable social mobility.

As a volunteer tutor, you will choose one of our partner schools and work with 1-3 pupils for an hour a week across the course of a school term. Sessions are either delivered on the school premises or online, at the same time each week. We provide all of our tutors with training and workbooks/session templates to use in sessions, and we will also process a DBS check for you!

Why You'll Love It:

Giving back by supporting and interacting with young people living in your community.

You can make a difference to a young person’s academic attainment and future opportunities.

A chance to improve your communication, organisational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.

A valuable opportunity to share your skills and your spare time to help others.

Meeting and socialising with like minded people.

Boosting your CV and future job prospects.

Experience working in a school (particularly useful for aspiring teachers).

What You'll Learn:

Through tutoring with us our volunteers are able to develop a wealth of transferable skills whilst making a significant difference. As an Action Tutoring tutor, you will develop the following skills:

  • Communication
  • Subject knowledge (in English or maths)
  • Working with young people
  • Confidence
  • Resilience
  • Motivation
  • Organisation
What We're Looking For:
