Housing caseworker

We are looking for volunteers who can commit at least 4 hours a week on an ongoing basis.
Full DBS check and travel expenses covered.
Volunteers receive information, advice and training
Weekly meetings are held on Saturday for 1 hour

What You'll Do: 

The role as a Housing Caseworker

-   Working in a team with other volunteers who provide support with employment, housing, immigration, welfare, health, wellbeing, training, personal and professional development and other areas of challenge that clients might be facing.

-   Provide a high quality, in-depth , impartial and confidential advice to clients on a range of issues, relating to housing and employment and casework service. Recognise the welfare benefits implications in housing cases and ensure that clients receive their appropriate benefit entitlement.

- Recognise the debt implications in housing cases and ensure that clients receive appropriate advice and assistance where necessary. Advocate on clients behalf as needed / liaise with 3rd parties as agreed and adhering to Spring Community Hub standards and agreements.

- Interview clients and listen to their problems in order to gather facts so that you can work out how best to advise them. Explain the range of choices available to them and what they mean, consider options and identify the best possible course of action.

- Carry out research where necessary to find out more in-depth information. Provide practical help such as writing letters, making phone calls and helping clients fill in forms.

​​- Practise on building interview skills as the role requires a 30  minute interview with the Business Support Coordinator and Hub Advice Coordinator. 

- Knowledge of the processes in charity.

- Interpersonal knowledge of communication with volunteers, staff and guests

- Understanding the means of providing advice, support, coaching and counseling

- Practice the methods of listening and mentoring.

- Understand the purpose of and proposing these in practice: negotiating, teaching, team working.

- Personal development and administration through the training provided (initial induction training provided).
