Governors for Schools is an educational charity that provides a governor recruitment, matching and support service. Governors for Schools finds, places, and supports skilled volunteers as governors and trustees on school and academy boards.
We support schools across England and Wales to run effectively by finding high calibre governors to bring their skills and expertise to the table – and improve education for children.
We provide ongoing support to governors so that they can thrive in the role.
School governors set the strategic direction of the school, hold leadership to account and ensure financial probity. Every school has a governing board made up of staff, parents and volunteers who work together in the best interests of all pupils. They monitor progress and attainment, ask challenging questions and provide support and expertise.
It's a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in education and to develop your skills and board-level experience at the same time.
Governors do not need to be parents or to have worked in a school. A variety of skills are needed from finance and data analysis to HR and inclusion. Softer skills are also sought such as good communication skills, negotiation, and working cohesively.
Governors for Schools provides lots of training to support you in the role. You don't need to be an expert in education, but you do need to be passionate about ensuring the next generation are able to reach their potential.
We provide a bespoke matching service based on your skills and preferences. We provide ongoing support to help you thrive in your role of governor.
