St Joseph's Hospice
Our mission is to provide compassionate, specialist palliative care to people in the diverse community of East London who are living with life-limiting illness. We treat each person as unique, encouraging and enabling them to reach their full potential until the end of their life. Our care is provided free of charge to anyone in the local community who needs it. We listen to the patient and their family so that we can work together to manage pain and distress whether physical, mental, social or spiritual. We encourage openness and honesty in communication to create an atmosphere of comfort and safety whether in the Hospice, in the patient’s home or in the community.
ABOUT US:

Founded in 1905 by the Sisters of Charity, St Joseph’s Hospice is one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK. We provide, high quality, specialist palliative care and support to people in our local community who have a life-limiting illness. All our services are free of charge.

Our core boroughs are City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham, but some of our services are also available to people in the surrounding boroughs of Waltham Forest, Islington, Haringey and Enfield reaching a population of around 2.1 million people.

We take a holistic approach to our care, which means that we look after the wellbeing of the whole person, as well as their loved ones.

We provide palliative care in the Hospice and in the community as we believe that people should choose where they receive their care.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Our work matters because we are supporting those in our local communities and in the hospice who are living with long term conditions and end of life care. Our work is important that we are providing the best care that we can give to our patients and that we are here to provide support to them and to their families and friends at a difficult time.

St Joseph’s Hospice relies on the generosity and support of our local community. We need to raise around £7 million a year to keep the Hospice running and source income through a number of channels.
