Each week, across England, our trained volunteers deliver fun, interactive, reading experiences. They provide one to one support to children, who are behind, giving them the help and encouragement, they need to catch up - to switch onto reading, learn to read and become readers for life.
We work to ensure all children get the best chance in life by becoming a reader.
What do we need from you? • Commitment, commitment, commitment! - The children we support need consistency. Although the occasional holiday is fine and you’ll sometimes miss the odd session, we do need your reading helper role to become a priority in your week. • Follow the Beanstalk approach – we need you to engage with our learning and development offer to ensure your sessions remain on track. • Follow our safeguarding code of conduct – we need to keep the children and you safe. Our safer working practice guide is there to help do this and must be followed at all times. • To thrive in the role you will need patience, flexibility, creativity and a sense of humour. Plus, the ability to think on your feet – children can throw you a curve ball! It’s important to recognise that you will become the face of Coram Beanstalk, representing us in one of our partner schools. We need you to be professional in both manner and appearance and to follow the guidance we give to you through your initial training journey.

Our Opportunities
The role of a reading helper places you in the heart of primary school life. You’ll be leading reading sessions that bring a positive reading experience to children outside of the classroom. Children will benefit from someone giving them 1:1 support.
